SUNDAY 6 JUNE: to St Ives

We are up early to do final bits of packing and then hit the road at about 9.30am. A pretty clear run with little traffic apart from a couple of slow tractors. I got some more driving practice and now feel a bit more confident with the automatic gearing. A bit of rain on the way and the coast is enshrouded in a dense sea mist. Our satnav takes us right through town and I am glad I am not driving at this stage. Several road closures in preparation for the G7 summit add to the challenge. We arrive safely just as the mist clears and the sun starts to shine. The Hicks greet us and we find our pitch (31) at the top of the field with views of the sea (and a few cars and caravans!) We walk into the town and eat a rather greasy pasty sitting on a fence overlooking Harbour Beach. We have to dodge seagull attacks. It is packed everywhere but the colours are amazing. A small beer sitting on Porthgwidden Beach before a stroll around the island and back to our site. We are having supper down at the Hicks van this evening.
